As our Senior DevOps Engineer, you’ll own the infrastructure and security that keep our mental health app running smoothly and safely. You’ll be the go-to expert who builds smart deployment pipelines, sets up monitoring, and drives best practices around protecting sensitive data. We’re a small, fast-moving team, so your ideas and initiative will shape how we grow and secure our platform. Contract Type: Independent Contractor (Self-employment or LLC)
Type of Work: Part time (20 hours per week), possibility to convert into a full time position
Location: Remote work
Work Schedule: Flexible, Mon-Fri: 12:00 – 21:00 EEST, including 1 hour lunch break
Salary Range: $2,500 – $3,500 gross monthly, based on skills and experience
Reporting to: Chief Technical Officer
Key competencies:
Proven experience managing AWS environments, including deploying and maintaining backend services and frontend static hosting (S3 + CloudFront)
Strong hands-on skills with Python/Django applications and related infrastructure components: PostgreSQL, Redis, Celery, RabbitMQ
Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, especially GitHub Actions, with ability to automate deployments, migrations, and service restarts confidently
Experience working with containerized development environments (Docker) and familiarity with best practices for production deployments (even if not containerized yet)
Security mindset with a good grasp of HIPAA-related concerns, data privacy, and healthcare application best practices (formal HIPAA certification not required)
Ability to design and implement observability and monitoring solutions from scratch (logs, metrics, alerts) to ensure system reliability and proactive incident detection
Senior-level expertise with a track record of proposing and implementing infrastructure and security best practices independently in a startup or small-team environment
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative attitude for working remotely or hybrid, comfortable taking ownership as the sole DevOps + SecOps hire
Nice to have:
Experience or familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, or AWS CloudFormation
Knowledge of security frameworks such as ISO 27001 or ISO 27799, or experience helping organizations move toward these certifications
Prior experience introducing security tooling such as Dependabot alternatives, vulnerability scanners, or compliance monitoring solutions
Hands-on familiarity with frontend build/deployment optimization in modern React/Vite stacks
Exposure to cloud-native observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or ELK stack
Comfortable with scripting automation beyond GitHub Actions, e.g., Python or Bash for custom tooling or maintenance tasks
Experience working in mental health, healthcare, or regulated industries
